Is the Aquabot X4 a hidden gem of pool cleaning?
Welcome back to Pool Pad, your landing pad for all things swimming pool related. I'm Kelly, and today, let's dive into the Aquabot X4. The X4 is a mid-priced and popular robot with a unique design. I will be scoring the X4 out of 5 in three categories: pool coverage, filtration ability, and feature set and warranty. Let's dive in!
First, let's look at the Aquabot X4's pool coverage. As I watched the X4 complete its cleaning cycle, I noticed it did an especially good job covering the pool floor and the walls of my pool precisely and thoroughly. I was especially surprised with how well it adhered to the pool surfaces because wheels are not typically as good as rubber tracks, but the X4 is the exception to this rule. Its sponge wheels never slipped or slid, as it stayed firmly planted on the pool floors and wall.
Thanks the Aquabot X4's large wheels and 4 wheel drive, the Aquabot X4 can go up almost any wall in your pool and scrub away with its underside brush. Which kept my pool spotless when testing this cleaner out.
One thing to note is that the X4 will not clean the waterline, despite its great coverage of the rest of your pool. Units such as the Dolphin Quantum, only cost a little more and can clean the waterline. Without waterline cleaning, you will have to go outside to clean up after the X4, which isn't something I love to do.
So if you're looking for a waterline cleaning robot, you will want to look for the Dolphin Premier, Sigma, or Quantum. Now for its score. The X4 covered my floors and walls so well though that I have to give it a 4/5 in pool coverage. For floor and wall coverage, you cannot get much better than the X4.
Next, let's look at the Aquabot X4's filtration ability. The X4 has two top-loading filtration cartridges, both of which are standard fine filters. The dual cartridges hold a lot of debris and are super easy to remove and clean. It would have been nice to see an additional filter type so that the X4 could clear up your cloudy pool water, especially since units such as the Dolphin Quantum include a NanoFilters for just this purpose, and the Premier has three media types to clean everything in your pool, including being the only robot with a Leaf Bag from Maytronics.
That being said, Aquabot noticed this shortcoming and made the standard filters on the X4 a little finer than Dolphin's standard filter. The X4's filter is said to remove particles all the way down to 2 microns.
After its cleaning was complete, I was surprised at how clear the water was. Speaking of clear, the tops of these filter baskets are transparent, which means it is easy to tell when they need to be cleaned. This thoughtful design, from the clear tops to the finer filter, means the X4 gets a 4.3/5 in filtration ability.
Finally, there is the Aquabot X4's feature set and warranty. The biggest feature that comes with the X4 is its programmable power supply, which has more features than comparably priced robots. On the X4's power supply, you can set it to clean every day, every two days, or every three days. You can also set its cleaning length to 1, 1.5, or 2 hours. This means you only have to walk outside once a week to turn the X4 on, and you can decide how deep of a clean your pool needs. Sometimes all your pool needs is a quick clean, so why waste energy, and sometimes it needs a deeper clean, and a standard clean cannot get it all done. Either way, the X4 has it covered.
The X4 also comes with a two-year warranty. This is what I would expect from a mid-priced cleaner, but it is still nice to see. With a two-year warranty, I won't have to pay for a replacement or repairs any time soon, and that is nice to know. With a feature-packed power supply and a two-year warranty, I have to give the X4 a 4/5 in feature set and warranty.
Overall, the X4 scores an 8.2/10, making it a very solid cleaner that should definitely be on your pool cleaner list. If you want waterline cleaning and better water filtration though, I would hop on over to my Dolphin Quantum review. If you want the best of the best, I would check out my reviews on the Dolphin Premier and Sigma.
