The Dolphin Sigma is a 2024 Proline model from Maytronics. Built with commercial-grade motors, it is built on the same commercial platform of the Dolphin Wave robots and even adds more features that you'll need on a residential pool, such as an Advanced Weekly Timer, Smartphone App, and more.
It is nearly idential to the Dolphin Wave 60, but superior in nearly every way. On first glance, the only difference is the color. But when you dive into the specifics, the Sigma has NanoFilters, myDolphin Plus app, a weekly timer, and even a longer 3 year warranty - all for a lower price.
So what's the catch?
There isn't one. The new Dolphin Sigma truly provides the best of both worlds with commercial-grade performance and features that make cleaning your swimming pool easier. The Dolphin Sigma is a must-have for any pool owner.
Let's dive into the Dolphin Sigma by Maytronics. The Sigma is the top-of-the-line robot from Maytronics that has everything you will ever want or need from a pool robot: waterline cleaning, a gyroscope, app connectivity, and multiple filtration options.
In this review, we'll assess its performance in my three testing categories: pool coverage, filtration options, and features/warranty. Let's dive in!
First, let's look at pool coverage. The Dolphin Sigma is apart of the Dolphin ProLine and built on the foundation of commercial-grade Maytronics cleaners, which means it leaves no part of your pool untouched.
From the waterline to the floor, the Dolphin Sigma covered every inch of our pool. With dual scrubbing brushes, Hypergrip tracks, Smart Nav, and most importantly, a gyroscope, the Sigma is the best of the best.
Immediately after plugging it in and dropping it into the pool, I was impressed by its performance. Its turns were tight, its path was calculated and precise, and it clung to the waterline.
This precise and complete coverage has a lot of pieces, but my personal favorite is the gyroscope. The gyroscope helps the Sigma by watching its position. On the floor, this means its turns will be tighter and its paths more precise.
On the wall, the gyroscope is what enables the Sigma to stick and stay at the waterline. Both of these are huge pluses that will leave you with little pool maintenance to do.
I especially appreciated how thorough the Sigma is at the waterline. My waterline has always been a problem area in my pool, and I would bet it is in your pool too.
This makes waterline cleaning a necessity for me, and the Sigma really delivered. I don't know if I have ever seen my waterline or pool floor cleaner, so I will have to give the Sigma a 5/5 in pool coverage.
Next, let's look at the filtration ability of the Dolphin Sigma. The Sigma comes with two filtration options: the standard fine filter and an ultrafine filter.
I am happy to see the ultrafine filter included here because it is necessary if you really want to unlock a robotic pool cleaner's full potential. Ultrafine filters get rid of all those microscopic particles that cloud your pool water. The standard filter, on the other hand, is perfect for your everyday cleaning.
The one area where the Sigma could have improved was to include a leaf bag, like the Dolphin Premier's oversized leaf bag. Don't get me wrong, the Sigma can pick up a ton of leaves in its oversized filter cartridges, but it doesn't hold quite as much as the Dolphin Premier's one-of-a-kind leaf bag.
This is a minor issue, though, as no other bot, other than the Dolphin Premier, comes with an oversized leaf bag, so I wouldn't expect to see it anywhere else. For these reasons, I have to give the Sigma a 4.7/5 when it comes to filtration ability.
Finally, let's look at the feature set and warranty that you get with the Dolphin Sigma. The first thing I noticed when pulling the Sigma out of the box was that its power supply was a simple on and off button. Simply plug it in, turn it on, and you can schedule and control the Sigma from anywhere with the Sigma's app.
Even if you don't want to use the app, you can simply turn it on from the power supply. The Sigma's app is a huge plus for me, as I am always looking for the easiest to use robotic pool cleaner possible, and apps are a key piece in making a robotic pool cleaner easy to use.
Not only can I turn the robot on and set its weekly schedule from inside, but now I can customize even more from within the app. I can tell the Sigma to clean just my walls, delay its starts, and even control it to quickly clean any spots in my pool.
All of these features make the Sigma the easiest pool robot I have ever used. The app is just so simple to use and is packed full of great features that let you control every part of how the Sigma cleans.
The Dolphin Sigma's warranty is just as amazing as the rest of the Sigma's abilities and feature set. The Sigma comes with a three-year warranty backed by Maytronics. As I have said before, the customer service team at Maytronics have helped me when I needed to redeem a warranty in the past.
This means you do not have to worry about the hassle of claiming your warranty, as Maytronics has you and your unit covered, should anything go wrong. With a great app and a three-year warranty backed by Maytronics, I have to give the Sigma a 5/5 in the features and warranty section as well.
Once we add up all three parts, the Dolphin Sigma scores a 9.8/10. This ties it with the Dolphin Premier, but with the app, I have to say I prefer the Sigma. I am always looking for the easiest pool robot to use, and the Sigma is it.
It cleans all of my pool up to the waterline with precision thanks to its gyroscope, comes with a standard and an ultrafine filter, and is easy to use thanks to its feature-packed app and three-year warranty.
