Can the Triton PS deliver all it promises too?
Welcome back to Pool Pad, your landing pad for all things swimming pool related. I’m Kelly, and today, let’s dive into the Dolphin Triton PS. The Triton PS is a premium robotic pool cleaner that mixes and matches a few premium features from other top robotic pool cleaners, so let’s look at all it can do and where it can improve!
First, let’s look at the Dolphin Triton PS’s pool coverage. The Triton PS can cover all of your pool from the floor to the waterline, which I am always happy to see. Much like the Dolphin Quantum, the Triton PS uses jets at the back and sides of the unit to stay and move at the waterline, but it can’t quite compete with units like the Dolphin Premier and Sigma. Both units have dual stabilizers that help to counteract their weight and keep them adhered strongly to the waterline. These dual stabilizers on the robot help it stick to the wall. Not to mention they both have these easy to miss climbing rings, which make a big difference as well.
While there are a lot more advantages of the Dolphin Premier and Sigma which I will cover later, such as a longer warranty and more filter options, I want to mention their flow rates here. The Premier and Sigma have commercial grade motors that have 4500 GPH flow rate which is 25% higher. The Triton PS only has a flow rate of 4000 GPH. While testing the unit, I could tell the difference in cleaning performance, not only in the waterline, but in the cleaning coverage of the pool.
If your waterline is particularly dirty, this extra stability goes a long way to make sure you never have to clean up after the robot. The Triton PS still has great coverage, and just like all other Dolphin units, it cleaned my pool in a clear and calculated path. Since the Premier and Sigma are so close in price though and have better pool coverage performance, I have to dock a few points from the Triton PS, as it cannot quite compete. In my opinion, the Triton PS scores a 4.5/5 in pool coverage.
Now, let’s look at the Triton PS’s filtration ability. Out of all three categories, this is the most disappointing. The Triton PS only comes with the standard fine filter, and at this price point, this is far below the average.
The Dolphin Quantum and Sigma both come with NanoFilters to clear up cloudy pool water. The Dolphin Premier has even more filter options included. With four filter media options, including a standard filter, NanoFilters, an oversized leaf bag, and a disposable debris bag, no matter what type of debris your pool has, from microscopic particles to big twigs and leaves, the Premier’s superior Multi-Media can capture it all. So if you have a lot of leaves in your pool, the Premier is for you.
The Triton PS, on the other hand, can only clean the most average of pools, and if you struggle with any special circumstances, you may be on your own. Most pools aren’t average though, and at this price point, I don’t want to be cleaning up after my robot because it only has one filter type. The standard filter is easy to remove and clean, and has a larger capacity, but its shortcomings are still sad to see. For this reason, I have to give the Triton PS a 3/5 in filtration ability.
Finally, let’s jump into the Dolphin Triton PS’s feature set and warranty. One of the biggest selling points of the Triton PS is its Weekly Timer, which is something I appreciate.
The warranty is disappointing. The Triton PS only comes with a two-year warranty backed by Maytronics. Dolphin’s other premium cleaners like the Premier and Sigma come with a 3-year warranty. That’s a 50% longer warranty and can save you a thousand dollars should anything go wrong. I personally always want to protect my investments, and since they have extra features as well, those are the robots I want for my pool. Since it includes a weekly timer but has a shorter warranty, I have to give the Triton PS a 4/5 in feature set and warranty.
Once everything is totaled up, the Dolphin Triton PS scores a 7.7/10. It is a solid cleaner that will do a good job cleaning your average pool from the waterline to the floor. If your pool struggles with cloudy water, a dirty waterline, or larger debris though, I recommend looking at other robots. The Dolphin Quantum, Premier, and Sigma can all clean your pool better thanks to multiple filter types, better waterline cleaning, and a longer warranty in addition to everything that already comes with the Triton PS. The Dolphin Triton PS is a capable cleaner with solid pool coverage and convenient weekly timer. However, its limited filtration options and shorter warranty make it less competitive compared to other Dolphin models.
